Lee M. Zeldin (R-NY) is a committee member of the 116th Congress U.S. House Committee on Financial Services. He is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for New York’s 1st congressional district since 2015. The district includes central and eastern Suffolk County, New York, including most of Smithtown, as well as the towns of Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, East Hampton and Shelter Island, New York. A member of the Republican Party, Zeldin previously served as the New York State Senator from the 3rd district from 2011 to 2014. He received an Army ROTC commission as a second lieutenant, and served in the United States Army from 2003 to 2007, first in the Military Intelligence Corps. Zeldin also served as a prosecutor in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps and as a military magistrate. In 2007 Zeldin became an attorney for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In 2008 he started a law practice in Smithtown. He operated it full-time until he was elected to New York’s 3rd State Senate district in 2010. He graduated from the State University of New York, Albany (BA), and Albany Law School (JD).
